Sorry you must be running 10.6 ..(note to self put check in)

I will add a check in on start up to do a system check and give better feedback.

Login denied to 10.6 client based on the AD Group Membership

Dominic,

Correct there are admin tools in 10.6 (Snow Leopard) that can deny the users to log in based on the Group membership - THis is right in the Workgroup Manager

I cannot use that here, because My server must remain binded to another domain "LIBRARY" and the group resides on another Domain "ADS" so i have no way of selecting that Group and do it 'the easy way in a GUI of Workgroup Manager

I am taking a look at your script and began to modify it =) i will post the finished product here.

Are you sure you wish to redirect the Documents?

The AppleScript is only a template but if you are struggling to fill the blanks/config for your organisation let me know and I can help you write the bits you need...

I will sugest if this is the case that email might be a better medium as (fast and (private, for your data))

the redirect on the Docs could be included....

this is just a example in applescript and the whole thing could easily be written in any shell lang..

let me know if you need any help...

P.S. the script should open in a txt editor....

Firefox perferences in Workgroup Manager?

Make sure the Managed Machine is properly attached to the OS X Server.
- Double check the ethernet address is correct
- Make sure the machine is in the appropriate group that has the setting.
- Log out of the machine and log back in (it may take two or three tries for it to sync up)
- Be sure to be using Safari, Firefox won’t listen to the settings.

Also, make sure you have the latest Server Admin Tools update – Apple will release updates for this around the same time they release the OS X Server updates.

If it still wont work, I’d check with Apple Support to see if there’s a known issue about thi

Using PKGImage 1.7.8 to deploy a 10.6 image

PKGImage 1.7.8 will deploy a OS X 10.6 ASR .dmg file and packages in the same way that it did with OS X 10.5.

Create a 10.6 ASR image with Disk Utility, Composer etc

Deploy using your current OS X 10.5.x Netboot image running on Server 10.5/4 with PKGImage 1.7.8

All previously created packages will deploy.

Active Directory and Open Directory Binding will work

Beware of a bug in OS X Client 10.6.(0 & 1) that prevents Active Directory mobile accounts working unless the account is pre-created or the "UNC Home Directory" option is ticked on.

Winclone script partitally working

Confirmed that auto-login is now being disabled.

So now the point of failure is that I can't get it to set the Windows volume as the startup disk. And it doesn't reboot.

I know the reboot command is fine. This is running as root since its a loginhook, right? I've got my sudoers set so I could sudo inside the script if I have to.

As for setting the startup disk to windows. When I run the command I'm trying in a terminal, I get an error "cant's statfs /Volumes/Untitled/". I see some apple-scripts out there, but they're basically calling the exact same shell commands I'm trying to run to do this.

I wonder if its because the volume needs to chkdsk itself. That's the first thing it does when booting into the freshly deployed windows image. Seems to be. Just checked system prefs, and even the GUI doesn't give me the option to change startup disk to windows right after installing the winclone image.

Yes that should not be an issue at all...

The best way would be to create a simple project in xcode that has the tool bar that you want...

It would not even have to start up any window app just load a toolbar.

Then add the menu items that you want...

You would need to change the rc.cdrom.posrWS file to point at your app..

just edit the one that comes with PKGImage and change

/Applications/Utilities/PKGImage.app/Contents/MacOS/PKGImage

to your app name..

If you need a hand to rough out a quick app let me know...

Printers

If you are using windows print server for all your printers then this can be a little bit of a pain...

If you are using a Mac Server then simple.

Just add the Bonjour printer being served from the Mac Server to the OPen Directory/WGM Server then add as a preference. Or if you have the WGM Sever just serving preferences then the load on it is so small that running a print service as well will be simple and affective.

If you are using a windows server then the biggest issue is getting the drivers out to the clients.

I opted to using ExtremeZIP on the windows side and adding the printers to my WGM server via its interface.

This will also allow users to add there own printers with drivers if i need to change them...

you can use cups or the previous method which was ksmb print or just add via lpadmin....

Which ever method you use once its done on the WGM server then those settings will carry across to your users (as long as your managing there machines)

Hi, (attempted report)

I was impressed to find an app that handled copying a user folder for the template folder. I've got a few machines - too much right now to setup in a magic triangle or something - but do join AD. I'm looking at using a mix of template management and tricks and WGM in localhost mode. So that's how I found http://www.apple-scripts.com/Downloads/ ... __136.zipn but I found that it seemed to be copying "everything", like the keychain file. The included scripts are run-only so I can't tweak them (not that I'm real good at appelscript) but perhaps there should be some facility for a cleanup or don't include x/y/z files....

Any help? I tried searching for template but it's locked out as a frequent work.

Hi Tense

This is actually quite hard..

Because the .pkg files are installed by the client in a list it is hard to work out the overall time... For the ASR progress this should be easy...

I am working on a over all progress bar which gives a sense of time... but its still false .. if you had 8 packages 4 very big and 4 very small...

if the first 4 were big the progress bar could be a 50% and it could have taken, say 20 minutes to install and yet the last 4 small packages could be done in under 5 minutes... or vice versa.

I have noticed that the OS X installer struggles with this.

I have updated the config screen to add both the AD and the OD settings in and to show more of a workflow.

Hopefully update coming out soon.

The only way that i can see the error is if i open an older version of PKGImage when the plist is set to local.... and not supported in the older versions

works fine for me...i have also setup kerberos on my 10.4/5 servers and that works as it should....

create a share via smb on the windows box that hosts your AFP shares... do you still get prompted?
it sounds like you have a valid ticket but the credentials are not being recognized....until it recreates the ticket...

It should handle it fine... as the ASR multicast will be from the servers and the ASR image..

The advantage to PKGImage is that the main load is put onto the client processor and not the server (this can be a disadvantage with the older hardware ((PPC))). Packages are small to copy down and are unloaded and installed from the client so there is less load on the server and overall bandwidth.

The next version will be taking this further having the ability of using the install DVD and doing the same thing installing the packages from the client... you have a smaller server side load and can run to more clients on a smaller setup. This is maybe a month away at the moment but the results look very promising for speed, and ease of updating ..
