Please feel free to use the contact option or post in the forum. I try and answer all questions as soon as possible. I want to know about how you are using and finding the software any suggestions or bugs.

Q. Why is the option to create an ASR image from the Installer DVD greyed out?
A. There were a couple of issues discovered with new retail DVD’s on launch. This option was delayed until all issues had been resolved. PKGImage 2.0.6 has full support for this option.

Q. How do I force PKGClient to run remotely?
A. You can use the command PKGClient from ARD as a terminal command or over SSH.

Q. How do I force PKGBind to run remotely?
A. You can use the command PKGBind from ARD as a terminal command or over SSH.

Q. PKGImage comes up with an error from the Netboot image?
A. Use PKGImage 2.0.6 or higher to create your netboot/Install image.

Q. Can you restore previous created 10.4/10.3 ASR images?
A. Yes. All ASR Images will restore with PKGImage. Directory Bindings should not be set for 10.4.x (or bellow) images, use the post script function to automate the binding for 10.4.

Q. How do you create a ASR Base Image?
A. Terminal, PKGImage 2+ or Disk Utility etc ……

Q. Can you use a 10.4 Netboot Server?
A. Yes you can. it must be running a 10.5/10.6 Netboot image. PKGImage is not compatible with a 10.4 Netboot images.

Q. Do you have to create a PPC and a i386 Base image?
A. Yes and No. You can only Install 10.6 on intel based hardware. 10.5 will install on PPC and i386 hardware as long as the machine supports 10.5.

Q. Can you download all the Apple update as PKG files and add them to the config list?
A. Yes and no. For the most part yes but QuickTime 7 and iPhoto updates fail as an install. This is because of the pre flight script. Using Composer, PackageMaker or Iceberg you can create a installer of iPhoto, QuickTime etc.

Q. Can you add Sophos Antivirus PKG to the pkg list?
A. No. Sophos AV needs the system booted to work properly. It will install without errors but the app will not run correctly. I have not tested any other AV.

Q. When i click on save in the Config I get an error?
A. Please make sure that there are no spaces in the save name, Use a – or _ instead.

Q. Can Printers or Accounts be added as a PKG?
A. Yes. You can add via a script with the PKG or create a PKG file of a templated home folder / User folder and / or preferences or as a post image script.

Q. PKGImage.app complains that it cannot access the Share? but the Image Share point is already mounted?
A. Unmount the Image Share, quit PKGImage and re-run PKGImage. PKGImage will complain if it has not mounted the share for you.

Q. Can I get a copy of the source code?
A. I am afraid that this is not possible at this time

Q. What can i turn into a package for PKGImage to install
A. Just about anything. From the User Template, Admin / Root Home folder, Printers, Scripts the list is just about endless.

Q. Can I run PKGImage from any client to set up the Config plists?
A. Yes PKGImage can be run from any 10.5/10.6 client to create the plist files, this is part of the design of the program. As they are stored on a share outside of the program.

Q. Is PKGImage a Universal app?
A. Yes PKGImage is Universal.

Q. Why can you choose different base images?
A. The base image might be an old 10.4 ASR image needed for some legacy hardware or a base 10.5/10.6 image ready to be stacked on imaging or a completed ASR Image created from the build ASR function or other software.

Q. When I use Auto Re-Image the name is displayed as “Name Not Found”?
A. Check that the MAC Address for the computer is correct.

Q. How can I update the name2.csv?
A. strings newnames.cvs >> name2.csv. Or Copy in excel/text edit/ any application that will edit a csv.

Q. How can I download the beta versions
A. Please use the Contact form to send me your email address and a request to be added to the beta list.

Q. When i create a new Netboot image using PKGImage, and copy it to my 10.4 Netboot Server the Netboot Service stops working.
A. This is a bug with the Server Admin GUI. restarting the service or a reboot.

Q. Sometimes when re-imaging I get a message that the disk cannot be renamed.
A. This happens when the disk times out in being unmounted or mounted. If this happens open up disk utility from the top menu and erase the disk and repeat the imaging. This can be an indication that the drive is failing it is recommended that if this error continues you have the hard drive checked or replaced.
